ProMetric PM-1200 Imaging Colorimeter
Powerful spatial luminance, illuminance & color measurements
The PM-1200 is the value-for-money, mid-level ProMetric imaging photometer based upon an uncooled, interline transfer-type CCD sensor with 1392 x 1040 pixels. With a dynamic range of 12 bits, the PM-1200 can resolve 4,096 different levels of brightness and colour. The PM-1200 is available as a colorimeter with a motorised, internal filter wheel containing three RGB filters precision matched to the CIE tristimulus observer function (model PM-1200-1). The PM-1200 is also offered with a second, motorised, internal filter wheel containing neutral density filters (model PM-1200N-1). With ND1 and ND2 filters fitted, the ProMetric camera can cope with light sources up to 100 times brighter than the standard model. This feature is particularly useful when testing high brightness LEDs and luminaires. Both PM-1200 models are available with an optional, fourth colour filter fitted to the internal filter wheel. The XB filter further improves the colorimetric match to the CIE tristimulus observer functions and leads to a higher level of accuracy with narrow band light sources.
The PM-1200 stands out as the lowest cost entry point for a high accuracy, CIE-matched tristimulus colour response and is recommended for narrow spectrum light sources (e.g. LEDs). The PM-1200 is also faster than the PM-1400 and PM-1600 and has no shutter for reduced maintenance requirements. The PM-1200 is best suited to making area uniformity measurements of luminaires, displays, backlights, including LED-based devices.
Each PM-1200 system comprises the ProMetric colorimeter, a lens or lenses of your choice (see: ProMetric Lenses), calibration(s) of the camera with your chosen lens(es), ProMetric software with 12 month support licence and a hard sided case for safe keeping. All ProMetric systems are supplied as standard with a 2 year hardware warranty. Popular options include an extended software licence or hardware warranty, external neutral density filters for use with bright light sources (model PM-1200-1), the XB colour filter and a geared tripod (or other mounting system). A computer is required to run the ProMetric software (user-provided). On-site training programmes are also offered by Pro-Lite.
Depending upon the intended application, a ProMetric imaging photometer or colorimeter can be ordered with a factory luminance calibration, or a kit that allows you to perform an in-situ illuminance calibration. For near-field measurements, you should specify a luminance calibration (units: candelas per square meter, cd/m2). Luminance calibrations are performed on the ProMetric camera with each lens at a specified working distance. For far-field measurements, you need to order your ProMetric instrument with an illuminance calibration kit. This comprises a high power projector light source with diffuser to create a Lambertian illumination pattern on a user-provided matte white screen. An illuminance photometer or colorimeter is also required (see: Photometers).
Prometric cameras are normally calibrated to CIE standard illuminant A and D65 colour points with reference to an incandescent source. For improved colorimetric accuracy with narrow linewidth sources such as LEDs and LCDs, a factory spectroradiometric four colour or multicolour calibration is available. Please note that ProMetric software allows a user to create their own device-specific colour correction calibrations, provided that they have access to a suitable spectroradiometer.
