High performance spectral imagers from Norsk Elektro Optikk/NEO

HySpex cameras by NEO provide high sensitivity, hyperspectral imaging in the 400-1000nm and 900-2500nm spectral bands and are suitable for laboratory, ground and airborne applications. HySpex cameras employ line-scan sensor technology to provide the highest precision in spectral imaging.

In a line-scan type of spectral imager, the camera images the object line-by-line using a so-called push-broom scanning technique, in which one narrow spatial line in the scene is imaged at a time, and this line is split into its spectral components before reaching the sensor array. On the 2D sensor array, one dimension is used for spectral separation and the second dimension is used for imaging in one spatial direction. The second spatial dimension in the scene arises from scanning the camera over the scene (for example by means of UAV or aircraft movement). The result can be seen as one 2D image for each spectral channel, or alternatively every pixel in the image contains one full spectrum. Compared to snapshot or real-time spectral imagers, push-broom instruments trade higher spectral and spatial resolution for reduced measurement speed.

The HySpex Range: for Laboratory, Field & Airborne Measurements

The range of HySpex high performance, hyperspectral, "push-broom" scanning imagers available from NEO includes models tuned to the VNIR band (400-1000nm), the SWIR band (930-2500nm) or the combined VNIR-SWIR band (400-2500nm).

The HySpex Mjolnir family are hyperspectral imagers optimised for use on UAV (unmanned aerial vehicles, or drones) and combine light weight (from 4kg) with low power consumption. The UAV bundle offered by NEO integrates a hyperspectral camera with a powerful computer and navigation system, all fitted into a self-contained module mounted on a passive damping platform. The system is also compatible with several off-the-shelf gimbals.

All HySpex cameras can be supplied with a rotation or translation stage, making them ideal for hyperspectral imaging of static objects, either in the field, in a laboratory or in a clinical environment. The scanning is fully integrated into the camera control software.

The HySpex VNIR-1800 hyperspectral imager is designed for field, laboratory, airborne and industrial applications in the 400 to 1000nm range. It utilises an actively cooled and thermally stabilised scientific-grade CMOS sensor with a dynamic range of 20000:1, making the VNIR-1800 the ideal camera for high-end data acquisition where radiometric accuracy is required.

A wide range of close-up lenses allows the use of the camera at working distances ranging from a few cm with a spatial resolution of 24μm, to infinity, which is ideal for airborne remote sensing.

The HySpex SWIR-384 hyperspectral imager is designed for field, laboratory, airborne and industrial applications in the 930 to 2500nm range. It utilises a 2D HgCdTe (MCT) sensor which is cooled to 150 Kelvin to yield low background noise, high dynamic range and an exceptional signal-to-noise ratio of >1100:1.

A wide range of close-up lenses allows the use of the camera at working distances ranging from a few cm with a spatial resolution of 53μm, right out to infinity, which is ideal for airborne remote sensing applications.

The HySpex ODIN-1024 hyperspectral imager is designed specifically for airborne applications in the 400-2500nm range.

Perfect co-registration between the 1024 spatial pixels for VNIR and SWIR is achieved by employing a novel common fore-optics design.

ODIN-1024 includes real-time data processing functionality that allows for georeferencing of acquired images. It also features a built-in, on-board calibration system to monitor the stability of the instrument.
