WaterCam Submersible Hyperspectral Imager

WaterCam Hyperspectral Imager

The SphereOptics WaterCam - powered by Cubert - is the world's first imaging underwater spectrometer, proving high speed, snapshot hyperspectral images in the VNIR range (450-950nm). Application areas are significantly extended by the waterproof housing.

Key Features

The WaterCam by SphereOptics is a full frame camera is a non-scanning, easy-to-use imaging spectrometer purpose-designed for underwater applications. With every frame this camera captures a complete 3-dimensional hyperspectral cube with 1 megapixel image resolution, 138 spectral bands and 2500 unique spectra.

The imaging spectrometer functions without any scanning mechanism (unlike in so-called "push broom" cameras) or image combination after fast filter shifts. It provides clean hyperspectral images out of the box without any moving parts.

  • High speed, snapshot hyperspectral imager in the VNIR range (450-950nm)
  • Application areas significantly extended by waterproof housing
  • Simple and robust with no need of IMU (no moving parts inside)
  • Designed for spectral mobile mapping

Functions

  • Smart control suite for hyperspectral cameras with the Cube-Ware software
  • Real time hyperspectral mapping
  • Hyperspectral video with up to 30 frames per second
  • Automated image processing to calculate hyperspectral indices (preinstalled and adaptable index library)

The WaterCam has been developed jointly by SphereOptics and Cubert under the frame work of ZIM research project KF3269001SA3 in cooperation with the University of Leipzig and the University Neubrandenburg.

Applications

  • Spectral mobile mapping, inter alia of water bodies
  • Analysis of water components
  • Food industry
  • Biological and medical applications
  • Ground truthing and field spectroscopy
