Image Testing Charts

Test with the Industry’s Best Image Testing Charts

Produced on a variety of substrates including reflective and transmissive material, Imatest test charts are designed to present a wide array of spatial, tonal and colour features for image quality analysis.

You can use our chart finder to calculate your field of view. Pre-distorted test charts can help compensate for fisheye distortion. See the test setup knowledge base for more details on using test charts.

Imatest Reflective SFRplus Test Charts Image Testing Charts

Datasheet

The Reflective SFRplus test chart can be used with the SFRplus module in Imatest 3.2 or later to measure MTF, lateral chromatic aberration, distortion, tonal response, and color accuracy. The SFRplus module features fully automated region-of-interest detection. The SFRplus chart offers significant advantages over commonly used charts such as the ISO 12233 chart, including:

  1. Better use of chart area
  2. The ability to produce a map of sharpness over the sensor surface
  3. Better measurement accuracy due to the lower contrast
  4. Full support for automated testing

Key Features

  • Less wasted area: SFRplus charts make use of the entire chart space, while only about 10% of the standard ISO chart area provides useful information for computerized analysis.
  • Reduced clipping of high-contrast edges: Making SFRplus test charts more accurate and consistent and less affected by overexposure and underexposure.
  • More signal processing information: Allowing measurement of the effects of signal processing, such as sharpening and noise reduction that you would not be able to collect with an ISO chart.
  • Automated Region Detection: Automatically identify regions of interest without manual input.
  • Variety of sizes and substrates: From 5 x 5 cm to 110 x 187 cm, printed on Matte, Semigloss, or Backlit Media (DisplayTrans) or Photographically Printed Charts on paper or film and even chrome on glass targets for the highest precision needs.

SFRplus tests for:

  • Noise
  • ISO Sensitivity
  • Color Accuracy
  • Texture Response
  • Distortion and Geometry
  • Resolution and Sharpness
  • Gamma and Tonal Accuracy
  • Lateral Chromatic Aberration

Imatest ISO & CPIQ Standard Test ChartsImage Testing Charts

Anatomy of the eSFR ISO Test Chart YouTube Video

Some companies adopt ISO standard charts as their own internal standard and then choose Imatest software to automatically and reliably test with those charts.

Key Features:

  • Meets international standards. The International Standards Organization (ISO) for Photography sets the international standards for image quality analysis and all of our charts conform to the specifications set by the ISO Committee.
  • Compatible with Imatest software. All ISO charts work with Imatest Master and IT.
  • Perfectly calibrated, high resolution print quality. Printed on our expertly calibrated printers, you can trust that each chart will produce the same result as the last.

Imatest Most Popular ISO Standard Charts:

  • Photographic ISO 12233:2014+ eSFR Image
With high-precision photographic printing, this chart enables optimal testing for high-resolution sensors as well as compact macro tests.

  • ISO 18844 Flare Test Target Image
Backlit target made on high contrast mylar film for testing Flare as outlined in ISO 18844. Assembled with low reflectance patches.
  • Inkjet ISO 12233:2014+ eSFR Image
Our chart closely resembles the implementation of the Low Contrast eSFR test chart illustrated in ISO Standard Document. We have made a few key enhancements to our version to maximize analysis capabilities.
  • ISO 15739 Image
This 15-patch grayscale step chart has 12 of the patches in a somewhat elliptical arrangement on the periphery and three in an inside row. It is supported by the Imatest Stepchart, Multicharts and ColorTest modules and fully supports automated region detection. The chart is printed on 12×18 inch (305×457 mm) luster inkjet media.
  • ISO 21550 Image
Small film target designed for testing Dynamic Range of Electronic Scanners for Photographic Images. Two variants are available with densities ranging from 0.1 to 4.0 or 0 to 6.0.
  • ISO 14524 Image
This chart features 12 grey levels on a durable material. Densities range from 0.10 to 2.30 and it is available on luster photographic paper or inkjet media. This particular chart fully supports automated region detection.

Imatest Texture Test ChartsImage Testing Charts

Evaluate texture reproduction impacted by noise reduction with Imatest scale invariant target.

The “Dead Leaves” chart was the first to test a camera’s ability to reproduce texture; Imatest has improved upon this with their “Spilled Coins” chart, which is perfectly scale invariant, producing reliable and consistent test results.

Imatest Dynamic Range Test ChartsImage Testing Charts

Find the range of luminance values your camera can resolve with good noise and contrast up until saturation.

Imatest dynamic range chart is designed to test tonal response, noise, basic resolution and colour. When used with the Stepchart module, imaging companies can test a high range of density levels.

Imatest Dynamic Range Test Charts Range:

36 Patch Dynamic Range (LDR) Image

  • At least 50 dB of Dynamic Range
  • Grey background for proper auto-exposure
  • Slanted edge and colour patch features

GrayWorld WDR & UHDR Image

  • At least 100 dB or 150dB of Dynamic Range
  • Constructed from two and three layers of photographic film
  • Grey background for proper auto-exposure
  • Characterise real-world system performance

Contrast Resolution Image

  • Measure distinguishability of low contrast objects within larger fields with Imatest 5.0
  • 100 dB of Dynamic Range
  • Grey background for proper auto-exposure
  • Slanted edge features

DarkWorld Mask Image

  • Goes over 36-patch test charts
  • Idealized dark scene with minimum flare
  • May be difficult for autoexposure

XYLA Image

  • Dark background with linear steps
  • 84 dB, 120 dB or 150 of Dynamic Range
  • Includes self-contained light source
  • Difficult to detect, affected by light falloff

ISO 21550 Image

  • Optical density 4 to 6
  • Supports the ISO standard
  • Good for macro systems
  • Low cost

Imatest Colour ChartsImage Testing Charts

The de-facto industry standard for colour accuracy and appeal

If your mission is to get the most accurate colour with the greatest appeal, the X-rite test charts are your best choice. Choose from the standard 24-patch ColorChecker or, for more detailed analysis, use the 140-patch ColorChecker SG.

Imatest Arbitrary ChartsImage Testing Charts

Arbitrary Charts Definition Part 1 YouTube Video

Combine all the features you need to analyse into a single chart

The Imatest™ Arbitrary Charts module analyses images of custom test charts. A chart-definition file (typically user defined) is needed to describe the chart layout to Imatest software. The Arbitrary Charts module will automatically locate and analyse target features when an observed image of a chart is loaded along with the corresponding definition file.

This module allows users to get a number of measurements out of custom, legacy, or competitors’ charts which are unsupported in other modules in Imatest, as long as they are composed of only a certain set of features. It is available in both Imatest Master and Imatest IT.

Imatest Other ChartsImage Testing Charts

More than the standard image quality charts. There are many imaging devices on the market that don’t fit the standard image quality testing parameters. For those products, Imatest developed a range of other charts that are outside the sphere of standardised test charts.
