High-Sensitivity Hyperspectral Imaging for Laboratory, Microscopy and Low-Light Applications
Hinalea Imaging has announced the launch of the VNIR ULTRA, a next-generation visible and near-infrared (VNIR) hyperspectral imaging system designed for demanding laboratory research, microscopy, and photon-limited imaging applications.
Covering the 400–1000 nm spectral range, the VNIR Ultra combines advanced spectral performance with exceptional sensitivity, enabling researchers to capture highly detailed hyperspectral data from challenging samples and low-light environments.
Advanced Spectral Imaging Performance
The VNIR Ultra captures 301 spectral bands with 4 nm FWHM spectral resolution, providing precise spectral characterisation across the visible and near-infrared spectrum. The system is powered by Hinalea’s proprietary Fabry–Perot Interferometer (FPI) technology, allowing the acquisition of full-frame 2D images at each wavelength without mechanical scanning.
By eliminating the need for mechanical scanning mechanisms, the VNIR Ultra delivers high-quality hyperspectral data cubes while maintaining excellent spatial accuracy and simplifying integration into laboratory workflows.
Designed for Photon-Limited Applications
At the core of the VNIR Ultra is a high-sensitivity 2048 × 2048 sCMOS sensor, engineered to deliver outstanding performance where light levels are limited. The system provides exceptional spectral fidelity and spatial resolution while reducing the need for excessively long exposure times.
Commenting on the launch, Alexandre Fong, CTO of Hinalea Imaging, said:
“We developed the VNIR Ultra system based on a high sensitivity sCMOS sensor with the most challenging light-starved applications in mind. It delivers highest performance in terms of spectral characterization of subjects or specimens, where photon counts are limited, without having to contend with excessively long exposures.”
Flexible Integration for Research Environments
The VNIR Ultra is designed for straightforward integration with both standard and custom optical systems. The camera features an SM1 mount and supports C-mount, F-mount and other adaptor options, making it suitable for a wide range of microscopy and laboratory configurations.
The system is supplied with Hinalea’s integrated software platform and SDK, enabling users to acquire, analyse and export hyperspectral data to popular environments including ENVI, Python, Hinalea software and other third-party platforms.
